Our Commitment to Clean Water
Pluvio—by definition is water (more specifically rain)—we create products that hydrate, replenish, and support healthy hair growth—mirroring how rain/water nourishes and sustains nature. Beyond just hair care, we’re also committed to our namesake, supporting efforts to preserve and provide access to clean water.
We partner with UNA NCA working to protect water sources, improve sanitation, and ensure that clean drinking water is accessible to communities around the world. While significant strides have been made in expanding access to clean drinking water and sanitation, billions of people remain without reliable access to these essential services. Currently, one in three individuals lacks access to safe drinking water, and countries face challenges related to water scarcity, inadequate sanitation, and water contamination. Over 2.2 billion people worldwide still lack safely managed drinking water, including 785 million who lack even basic access. Every day, nearly 1,000 children die from preventable diarrheal diseases linked to poor water and sanitation.
Achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6—ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all—would not only provide equitable and healthy livelihoods for billions, but also help mitigate the risks associated with water scarcity-driven conflicts. A projected 40% shortfall in freshwater resources by 2030, coupled with a rapidly growing global population, heightens the threat of a worldwide water crisis.
Sustainable water management is key to addressing these challenges. Properly managed water resources can enhance food production, drive economic growth, and protect ecosystems. However, in 2018, 60% of countries reported poor implementation of integrated water resource management, with little likelihood of meeting SDG 6's targets by 2030. Agriculture currently consumes about 70% of all freshwater withdrawn from rivers, lakes, and aquifers, while more than 80% of wastewater from human activities is discharged into rivers or seas without sufficient treatment. Climate change exacerbates these issues, reducing the volume of freshwater available and further damaging ecosystems, agriculture, and livelihoods.
Sustainable management of water resources is essential for fostering economic resilience, food security, and social well-being. Water shortages undermine food security, particularly for rural farmers, while improving water management can enhance the resilience of national economies, especially in agriculture, enabling them to better respond to fluctuations in rainfall. Protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems ensures that water purification and quality standards are maintained, securing clean water for future generations.
